All of the bacteriophages contained in these products are found in nature; they are carefully isolated by hig skilled microbioloists from various sources
throughout the world. By their nature bacteriophages are narrow spectrum and thus they are specific to (they will lyse) a relatively small number of
strains of bacteria. To develop the commercial product, a number of genetically unique broad spectrum phages are combined into what is often
called a "phage cocktail". This broadens their usability.
In general these products contain phages that lyse (kill) bacteria in the following genuses: Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pseudomonas,
Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus and Enterococcus. Because phages are narrow spectrum and bacteria tend to change over time, not all
bacteria will be sensitive to these products - in other words many strains of a given genus or species of bacteria will be resistant.
For the best result it is recommended that sensitivity testing is performed by a reputable laboratory prior to use.
These preparations are developed and manufactured by George Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages, Microbiology and Virology.
